From March 25 to 31, 2025, 15 participants from Ukraine and Georgia, along with partners from Spain and Germany, took part in a study visit in Berlin. The visit was organized with the financial support of the European Union as part of the CivicArt project. It was hosted by our German partners from KulturNest e.V., who introduced us to local artistic and performing arts initiatives.
During the study visit, the participants visited the Theater der Kleiner Form, where the director Evelyn Heller shared her experience of using puppetry to raise important social issues through theatre and performances. At Studio Ukraine in Treptow, where artists from Ukraine have been sheltered, participants had the opportunity to join in the creation of art textiles reflecting important social issues.
On a graffiti tour in Kreuzberg, guided by well-known street artist Pelele, participants saw how street art can be a powerful tool for expressing and engaging young people in important social discussions. At the women’s organization Frauen Machen Druck in Neukölln, participants learned how women in Berlin unite for mutual support and fight racism through lithography. It was a powerful experience in understanding how creativity can be not only self-expression, but also a means of social resistance.
At Artistania NGO, the participants got introduced to works that combine theater, masks, large puppetry and street performances, while at Zuhause, a collective of migrant women, they explored the concept of home and belonging through public workshops in open urban spaces.
On the last day of the visit, with the help of facilitators Ekaterina Sherer and Dagna Gmitrovich, the participants reflected on their learning experience, exchanged ideas, and developed an action plan for the coming months. Each experience was a reminder of how powerful art can be in creating connections, amplifying voices, and promoting change.
This visit was a great opportunity to get new insights, share experiences, and gain inspiration for further work on the development of activism and civic education through the arts.

This block of activities is aimed at raising awareness of the role of art and artivism in the development of civic education, demonstrating successful examples of artivism, and inspiring the use of project products.
The meeting will be aimed at formalizing the international CivicArt Alliance network. The event brings together representatives of the Consortium and their partners, including representatives of formal education institutions, artists, and youth NGOs that participated in the project activities. The total number of participants is 20 persons.
Local activities are scheduled for the first half of 2026. Participants of the study visit and training course will have the opportunity to practice the newly developed competencies in their communities.
Estimated timeframe – April-June 2026. The campaign is part of the follow-up training activities. Participants will be invited to create digital artistic content that contains an educational component.
The estimated date of the training is February 2026. The call for participants will be announced in October 2025. The training will aim to strengthen the capacity of youth workers from Ukraine and Georgia to implement non-formal civic education activities through artistic tools.

The second part of the “CivicArt” Project Kick-Off meeting took place in Berlin on March 23-25th. The partners gathered to discuss project goals, activities, and strategies for empowering young people through creative and impactful learning experiences.
As part of the CivicArt Project, a group of 12 youth workers from Ukraine and Georgia embarked on an enriching study visit to Berlin, Germany, to explore the practical experience of German colleagues in organizing and coordinating art-based civic education activities.
The CivicArt consortium team has completed a study on the use of artistic practices in civic education for young people in Ukraine and Georgia. The final report contains the results of an analysis of the needs, preferences and challenges faced by youth workers, educators, artists and artivists in implementing artistic practices and artivism in civic education.
